What Is a Low Carb Beer?
Less than one gram of carbohydrates per 100 milliliters (mL) is the norm for low carb beers. Even though everyone has different tastes, there is a beer to fit almost everyone’s palate, whether it’s a bitter India pale ale (IPA) or a light wheat beer.
If you’re looking for low carb beers, you might want to look for “light” beer. Compared to other beers, their carbohydrate level is consistently lower. They might have a slightly lower alcohol content than their typical equivalents, as indicated by the percent of alcohol by volume (ABV). However, some “light” beers vary in calories and contain more carbohydrates than others.
“A product must contain one-third fewer calories than the full-calorie version in order to be marketed as ‘light,'” Taylor C. Wallace, PhD, adjunct professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, told Health. The 25 low carb beers listed below have less than 100 calories per 12-ounce glass, can, or bottle.
1. Amstel Light

Check your beer’s package or the internet for nutritional data. “As long as they’re drinking responsibly and not too much, 5g of carbohydrates is a reasonable benchmark for people who watch their carb intake,” Tsaparikos added.
Other low carb beers cannot be identified by any reliable indicator, such as hop bitterness. “Obviously, if the product tastes sweet, it likely has more sugar and carbs,” explained Dr. Wallace. “But in general, quantities can vary between even similar products.”
